The First Post
Libraries, Graphic Novels and Me
The first post of any blog is always going to be awkward, and I’ve written a few of these now on blogs that no longer see the light of day (this is a good thing). So I figure I will just get this one over and done with and move onto content as soon as possible.
I wasn’t born a librarian but my mother thought I was. After qualifying with a post-grad diploma in the ancient art I worked in public libraries for a few years before becoming pregnant, having one of many mid-life crises, and wondering what exactly it was I was supposed to do with my life.
Enter comics, graphic novels and animation.
Two years later I had started what I believe to be the only business in the world specifically designed to advise and supply libraries with comics and graphic novels. I no longer own Sealight Books but still love the medium of visual storytelling. Particularly all-ages material or those titles that tell great stories without excessive and repetitive violence or other forms of gratuitous fan-service.
This blog is intended to offer my ex-librarian’s perspective on graphic novels and the people that read and write them. Welcome.
